There’s an anon in Dark’s inbox complaining that Dark’s personality doesn’t match up with game canon.
Y’know, because in-game, Dark Link totally had a fully fleshed-out personality and backstory and underwent loads of outstanding character development, making him one of the best-written characters in the series. He had a well-defined set of characteristics that leaves absolutely no wiggle-room or any space for me to improvise at all.
There’s never any mention of him until you run into him in the Water Temple, and even Navi’s description of him is totally lacking. No dialog, no personality, no backstory, and no mention of him after that one, brief fight in a room that doesn’t even exactly exist. Nobody knows what he actually is. There’s no canon there to go against.
I’ve had people tell me that they don’t like certain aspects of his personality, and I’ll brush those off, because that’s taste. I know not everyone’s gonna like him because he’s not a fun, light-hearted character, and I’m really strict about sticking to character [unless I wanna draw something silly]. You don’t like his personality, okay. I can see how he might not be appealing. To be honest, as a person, he’s an insensitive asshole who never feels bad about exploiting or harming other people if it works to his advantage. I certainly wouldn’t wanna be around anyone like him.
But telling me that his personality goes against game canon when there is no game canon for it just makes you look like an idiot.
I’m caught between laughing and making disdainful expressions at my computer.
